United Kingdom (including England, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)
You should no longer use the current blue UK police certificate (known as Subject Access or data protection statement) when you apply for a visa. A new Police Certificate has been introduced that has more security features and information on criminal records from databases covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Until the end of this year, either the Subject Access or the Police Certificate will be accepted when you apply for a visa, but any certificate issued after December 31, 2008, must be in the new format. The cost will be £35 but the new certificates will: - contain more comprehensive information
be issued in a matter of days and - improve security by including a photo and a reference to aliases.
To apply, download the application form and supporting information at: www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp You must submit these documents with your application: - a copy of the identifying page of your passport (usually the one with your photograph)
- copies of two recent utility bills or correspondence with your current address
- a color passport-sized photograph
- fee payment
- £35 for standard 10-day service
- £70 for premium three-day service
Please do not submit originals of your passport and other documents. The copies will not be returned to you. If you need help with your application, call the ACPO Criminal Records Office at 0845 6013 999 (between 08:30 and 16:30 Monday to Friday) or email acro.policecertificates@acro.pnn.police.uk.
