Citizenship and Immigration Canada, introduced a new bill which will allow children adopted abroad by Canadian citizens to obtain Canadian citizenship and foregoing the first step which would have been permanent residency.

Children born abroad to Canadian citizens and children adopted abroad by Canadians will be treated in similar procedure.

The adoption must conform to the laws of the province or the territory of residence of the adoptive parents. Adopted children will be granted Canadian citizenship upon completion of the adoption process. A citizenship application must be submitted in their name.
